Meeting since 1995, the SFEDI Advisory Board comprises all the major UK small business membership and business support organisations. The remit is to research good practice and set standards for those thinking of, preparing for, starting or running their own enterprise and all those that support prospective or existing enterprise owners.

Standards describe the skills and know how needed to succeed. The SFEDI Advisory Board through its work continually drives improvement of the quality of enterprise education, training and support.

SFEDI is also recognised by the qualifications regulators in the UK and is able to submit units (assessment) for enterprise and business support into the qualification framework for use by all approved awarding organisations. The SFEDI Advisory Board oversees this work and in addition invited government policy makers, programme developers and delivery organisations to its meetings so that they can benefit from the guidance of the SFEDI Advisory Board as the UK expert body for business enterprise and business support. The SFEDI Advisory Board also recognises best practice in enterprise development and hosts an annual awards ceremony for those providing enterprise training and support.
