Elsa Caleb Appointed New Chair of SFEDI

Elsa Caleb has been appointed Chair of SFEDI, the UK’s leading enterprise development and support organisation. In her new role, she will work with Managing Director Nat Hardwick to develop the support offered by SFEDI to prospective and new businesses across the UK, both through its regional network of SFEDI Centres of Excellence and its accredited advisors. Elsa has a particular focus on supporting the development of social enterprise in the UK.

Elsa Caleb is the founder and Managing Director of ECJ Associates, a consultancy specialising in delivering business development and support to SMEs.  She has over 17 years’ experience in business consultancy spanning many business sectors.  A board member of the Park Royal Partnership, she is also a former member of the Small Business Council (SBC), Women’s Enterprise Panel, Business Crime Committee of the Home Offices and Former Chair of the Institute of Business Consulting (London Region).  She was awarded the Woman of the Year Award in 2005 for her work in Social Enterprise and was previously a Director of SFEDI.

Founded in 1996, SFEDI is the Government-recognised UK standards setting body for Business Support and Enterprise.  Run by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, the organisation researches best practice and sets standards, principles and guidelines for advisers and trainers working with prospective and new businesses. It also develops and endorses products, services and qualifications which meet the needs of those considering self-employment, those running and working in small businesses and those supporting small businesses.

Commenting on her appointment, Elsa said:  “Setting up and running a successful business requires support and coaching from those who really understand the pressures and pitfalls and have the skills and experience to provide effective support.  This is what stands SFEDI apart and makes it such a vital organisation.  A recent research project we’ve conducted highlights the importance of continuous development in the area of skills and learning development which is required within the UK and Europe if the successful businessmen and women of tomorrow are to get the help they need to fulfill their potential.  At SFEDI, we look forward to embracing this challenge.”
